Luftfahrtverlag: The Panther-Battalion Brandenburg 1945

Luftfahrtverlag: The Panther-Battalion "Brandenburg" 1945  ISBN: 978-3-941437-17-3

Book in German and English. The story of the Brandenburg Panther Division and its history as the First Division of the 26th Armoured Regiment takes place against the backdrop of the collapsing fronts of the last year and a half of the war. The reader takes part in the retreat battles in the vast steppe landscapes of southern Russia and Romania and the battles on the East Prussian border and in the Baltic states. At the end of 1944, he was trapped with the division in the Memel bridgehead in East Prussia and experienced the relief advances on Budapest at the end of 1944/beginning of 1945. Finally, in February 1945, the renamed division was transferred to the Oder front near Küstrin, where the Panthers were one of the last armoured divisions to oppose the Soviet attack on Berlin. The descriptions involve the reader not only in the battles of the division but also in the overall events of the last weeks of the war on the Oder. He directly experiences the collapse of the entire Oder front and the retreat and downfall in the Halbe cauldron. The descriptions are so close and vivid that it is impossible to escape the drama of the events. Anyone who wants to understand what happened back then can go on a journey through time with this book.

After 10 years of research, this history is a book that stands out from many other books about armoured units or the last months of the war. The text is supported by over 200 almost exclusively unknown photos of operations on all fronts and 27 colour maps.

A unique documentation that once again takes advantage of the opportunity to draw on the last contemporary witnesses.
