Avro Lancaster B Dambuster Mk.I in 1/48 scale by HK Models captures the famous British bomber legend in its special variant for Operation Chastise, which took place on the night of 16-17 May 1943. The aim of the mission was to destroy the German dams in the Ruhr using the revolutionary "bouncing bombs" developed by engineer Barnes Wallis.
The Lancaster Mk.I Dambuster differed from the standard versions by the removal of the lower machine gun turret, special modifications to the bomb bay to accommodate the Upkeep rotating bomb, and stabilizing features on the fuselage. The aircraft of 617 Squadron RAF conducted precision low-level raids, hitting and damaging the key Möhne, Eder and Sorpe dams. Despite heavy losses, the operation demonstrated the RAF's determination and innovative approach to disrupting German infrastructure.
